This custom millwork piece will hold a collection of Tang Dynasty Chinese sculpture on floating glass shelves.
Glass shelves cantilever from lacquered panels in three colors chosen to complement the delicate colors of the ceramic statues.
Two walls will be covered by an Mondrian-like arrangement of glossy panels in a formerly awkward edge of a loft like space. New seamless closet doors integrate the entire wall surface. The focus will be entirely on the art.
A sketch of the initial idea.

The unit in the shop before the lacquer is applied.
Some the the Tang dynasty (618-906 A.D.) horses that will be on display.

This vacation apartment accommodates three generations of a large family. To this end, a one bedroom apartment was converted into a two bedroom apartment. The existing kitchen is now a children’s guest room. The dining room became a kitchen. With flexibility in mind, the master bedroom sleeps a couple or two siblings while the living room sofa folds out for the extra grand children. An open dining room, kitchen and living room makes the most of holiday gatherings. Custom millwork in the living room stores while serving as end tables for the seating group. It is truly a warm weather refuge for a New York family.
The real secret is that it was all done on a budget. This mix of high/low custom and retail is executed with smart planning, durable finishes, elegant details and exhuberant style.

This triplex penthouse apartment was reinvented as an open vertical loft. The complete renovation included an enlarged stair opening at all three floors, partially raising the floor level of the second floor for a more elegant spatial transition and a new sculptural stair case. The sizes of the existing kitchen, powder and bathrooms were reconfigured. The kitchen features integrated doors or panels that hide the appliances and cooktop, allowing for an elegant open entertainment space. The red slate slabs of the fireplace wall were handpicked and arranged to form a composed whole. The versatile master suite contains ample hidden storage, an office niche, a dressing/sitting area and a custom designed bed. A third floor guest space was created. The terraces’ classic New York view can be enjoyed form a colorfully lit hot tub unless one prefers to watch a movie on the outdoor screen. The terrace kitchen and bar assures comfortable outdoor entertaining. My client is having a fantastic time.
